The official launch of the “Taijiang National Park No. 1” patrol boat is expected to enhance the conservation work of Cigu Lagoon, safeguard the fishery resources, and facilitate sustainable development of the national park.

To conserve andprotect the Cigu Lagoon ecosystem and the environment, Taijiang National ParkHeadquarters purchased a patrol boat in the end of June 2012, with the missionto execute patrol duties in the inner sea area. After months of preparation andtrial runs and training the staff for the duties and routes, the launchceremony was scheduled on November 6th. The community leaders of theneighborhood watch teams in the Cigu area, the chairpersons of the communitydevelopment associations, and operators of the recreational fishing raftbusinesses were invited to join the staff of the Taijiang National Park Headquartersand the Taijiang police squad in this special event. The local residents callthe Cigu Lagoon the “Neihaizih (inner sea)”. The sandbank isolates the wavesfrom offshore, calms the water in the “inner sea”, and shelters and protectsthe surrounding settlements. The organic substances brought by the surroundingrivers and drainage pipelines attract marine life to live and reproduce in thisarea, which nurtures an ecology with rich biodiversity. Fishermen tookadvantage of such favorable conditions and developed set-net fishing and rack oysterfarming technologies, which became part of the local culture and lifestyle afterseveral generations.
