Rise and Decline of the Kenting Beaches- Go without Taking a Grain of Sand
Kenting National Park Headquarters commissioned the Department of Civil Engineering, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, to build a database of the beaches in Kenting National Park and analyze the basic features from 2010 to 2011. This database provides a significant reference for the coast protection and planning of tourism. The shores within the vicinity of Kenting National Park are mostly rocky shores formed by coral reefs, and the scattered rocky shores and beaches are highly sensitive to the impact of human and weather factors. Therefore, compilation and analysis of the database is focused on the beaches. There are 12 locations in Kenting National Park classified as beaches, including Houwan, Baisha, Maotoubi, the cooling water outlet of the Third Nuclear Plant, Houbi Lake, Nanwan, Dawan, Xiaowan, Chuanfanshi, Shadao, Fengchuisha, and Fishermen's Park. The dimensions and tidal lines of the beaches vary due to the varied scales of waves, tides, and winds, as well as the wind direction. Although it is a natural phenomenon, the Kenting National Park Headquarters still would like to ask visitors to pay attention to the following message. Please shake or pat off sand before leaving the beach; don't take away even a grain of sand. We need your help to keep the beaches in a sustainable natural cycle of rise and decline.
