MNPH cultivates new seeds for marine environmental education with the Seagrass Bed Ecosystem Teaching Material and Tool Promotion Workshop
In order to promote marine environmental education, the Marine National Park Headquarters (MNPH) specifically commissioned the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (NMMBA) to produce Taiwan's first set of systematic teaching materials for seagrass bed eco-system, the Adventures in the Seagrass Jungle. The entire set of teaching materials with tools transforms stiff knowledge into comprehensive and curious treasure-finding picture books accompanied with an instructor's manual and a student barricade breakthrough manual, and such auxiliary teaching tools as biology pads, stickers, teaching agenda, and presentation DVDs. In order to encourage teachers to use these teaching materials and tools, the MNPH also organized the Seagrass Bed Ecosystem Teaching Material and Tool Promotion Workshop. With field observation and hands-on operation, the MNPH introduced the Adventures to teachers to cultivate new seeds for marine environmental education, so that they can inoculate environmental protection concepts in the next generation. This teacher workshop emphasizing hands-on operation and practice took trainees to observe seagrass beds in the intertidal zone, and touch seagrass and the organisms inside, to help them better understand this rarely known but extremely important marine eco-system and deepen their learning impression.
