Golden Harvest Moon-Rice Harvesting Camp

Kenting National Park Headquarters and Longshui community has teamed up to host the Rice Harvesting Camp to let local elementary students experience the hardships and joys involved in the actual harvesting and rice-cutting process. The event involved community guides explaining the life cycle of the rice plant from transplanting rice seedlings to harvest, and students will also get the opportunity to experience the harvesting cycle first hand, including cutting and threshing rice. We hope that through this event participants will appreciate the hard work that goes in to a bowl of rice and treasure each grain.

The camp will start at 8:00 a.m. on June 5 with approximately 130 students from Hengchun Primary School attending the actual rice-harvesting operations. Community guides will narrate and explain the life cycle and harvesting process of rice and students are sure to leave with unforgettable memories and compassion towards agrarian life.

This season's rice harvest events are drawing to an end due to seasonal factors and are also open to the general public as well. If you are interested in participating in a harvest, please contact the Kenting National Park Headquarters or the Longshui community.
