"History of Taiwanese Mountaineering" Book Set Published

The CPAMI (Construction and Planning Agency, MOI) published the History of Taiwanese Mountaineering book set on December, 2011 with the aim of giving the public a better understanding of mountains and the complex emotions surrounding the interaction between human beings and mountains and helping people realize the beauty of Taiwan's mountains and the mountaineering spirit, as well as instilling the principles of climbing safety and mountaineering education.

During its compilation, the CPAMI received vast amounts of historical data from the mountaineering community. Collection and verification of data took more than seventeen months, and the original draft with more than a million Chinese characters was concentrated and refined into 630,000 Chinese characters. Thousands of old photographs were selected and digitalized; the biographies of nine historical figures and interviews with twenty-eight mountaineering precursors were collated. The enormous task of editing and revision was finally finished and the set of books was finally published in May, 2013.

The first edition of this set of books is limited to 1,000 copies. The valuable historical data within will be gradually digitalized and archived for later generations.
