Shei-Pa 21st Birthday Celebration: Native Plant Seedlings Give-Away Event!

The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters is hosting a series of '21st birthday' events. The Headquarters is giving away self-cultivated native plant seedlings, such as Ceylon Ardisia, pratia, formosan torenia, and the formosan apple, to visitors at the Wenshui Visitor Center starting 9:30 a.m., July 20, 2013. We hope this event will increase public interest in the park's natural resources. It is also a chance for the park to quite literally share the fruits of its ecological conservation!

Native plants, the local environment, and other wild animals all have a symbiotic relationship. Native plants are the perfect choice for beautification efforts, why is why Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters advocates planting plants which are native to the local area. The headquarters is in favor of replacing the traditional grass lawns and flower gardens with drought-tolerant and healthy local plant species in order to cut water and fertilizer costs, actions which also reflect today's biodiversity and environmental protection goals.

The event is open to the general public. A total of 500 seedlings will be given out on the day of the event (limit one per person) while supplies last.
