The annual Taroko Gorge Marathon will be starting on November 2 this year in Hualien. This year's marathon will be using a ballot to determine marathon participants. Online registration is from 9AM on August 12 to 5PM on August 14. Participants will be chosen by electronic ballot and will be announced on August 19.

In addition, to encourage participation from outstanding runners, the Chinese Taipei Road Running Association has decided that those who participated in last year's Taroko Gorge Marathon and/or Fubon Taipei Marathon, this year's Kinmen Marathon, or Taipei International Freeway Marathon, and finished within a specific time period will be able to attend without having to pass ballot selection. This applies to men who finished the full marathon within 3 hours and women who finished within 4 hours; men who finished the half-marathon within 80 minutes and women who finished within 100 minutes. Runners who have participated in the full Taroko Gorge Marathon annually from 2000 to 2012 will also be eligible to participate without entering the ballot.
