The Hanging Gardens of Shei-Pa: the Xuejian Canopy Walkway
Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters commissioned a professional design and construction firm to create a 21 meter-high treetop walkway in June of this year. The walkway is the first of its kind in the history of Taiwan's national parks and is located in the Xuejian Recreation Area in Tai-an Township, Miaoli County. Shei-Pa Headquarters hopes to provide more research options for ecological survey researchers and more chances for the public to enjoy the ecological beauty of treetop canopies.
Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters has added another platform this year (2013) and linked the two platforms together to create the Xuejian Canopy Walkway. Although the walkway is only 10 meters long, it comes with greatly increased convenience and safety for environmental and ecological research. The first group to conduct research on this aerial platform was a group of canopy-insect researchers from Chung Hsing University, commissioned by Shei-Pa Headquarters to conduct net sweeping, marking and sample collections. The Headquarters hopes researchers from other areas of research will take advantage of the treetop canopy walkway and platform for field research.
