Taroko National Park Headquarters and the Directorate General ofHighways carried out the “Jiuqudong Tunnel Engineering” at 174k of ProvincialHighway No.8. At present, the rockfall catching net was completed and basesubstitution operations are being carried out.

To prevent operations from affecting traffic and the safety of drivers, itis necessary to implement first stage traffic control operations based on thethree-stage traffic control plan approved by the Hualien County Road TrafficSafety Joint Committee. This is the same traffic light control method that willbe used at the east end of Yanzikou at 179k of Provincial Highway No.8 (CentralCross-Island Highway). Traffic lights at the west entrance of Jiuqudong will becontrolled all day for traffic both ways to run through a single lane. Thetraffic control will begin on May 23rd, 2014; the first stagetraffic control will last roughly four months. The actual time of trafficcontrol will be adjusted based on traffic flow. Drivers should be cautious whenpassing through the road section.
