The Oil Painting “Chiang Kai-shek and General Hu Lien” at Kinmen National Park Guningtou Battle Museum was Restored
Kinmen National Park Guningtou Battle Museum has on display 13 large oil paintings, inwhich “Chiang Kai-shek and General Hu Lien” was painted by Master YangHsing-Sheng in 1985 for the museum. The painting shows General Hu Lien accompanying Chiang Kai-shek after the Battle of Guningtou in inspecting sea defenses.
The work done this time is mainly cleaning and consolidation, in which consolidation is the use of animal glue to fix the unstable painting layer, while cleaning is the use of a scalpel to carefully clean any stains; a cotton swab with a small amount of solvent is used to help clean stains. Due to the massive size of the painting, it was not transported and restored on site. This opportunity for on-site restoration allowed everyone to understand the expertise and difficulty of restoration work.
