Sharing milkfish with love from black-faced spoonbill
Taijiang National Park Headquarters applied the traditional milkfish farming model for creating the habitat of black-faced spoonbill in the Qigu Campus of the National University of Tainan. The canned milkfish made this year and last year were shared with over 2 thousand middle to low income households. Several hundred cans were donated to the food bank established by Tainan City Government Bureau of Social Affairs and social welfare organizations, allowing the public to see the efforts of Taijiang National Park in the conservation of black-faced spoonbill. Taijiang National Park Headquarters indicated it began actively working with the National University of Tainan in 2011 after discovering that black-faced spoonbill had insufficient food sources in Tainan. It thus created a habitat for black-faced spoonbill in the university’s Qigu Campus, which is not far from the nature reserve, and developed the trademark “black-faced spoonbill,” representing products from fish farms friendly to black-faced spoonbill. The park headquarters will also develop an ecological certification to encourage fish farmers to join the ranks of conservation by using friendly farming methods.
