A response to media report questioning whether the Kenting National Park administration should manage the garbage left behind by people who fished there

Under the National Parks Act, people can fish in Kenting National Park only with permission of the park administration. That has been the case ever since the establishment of the administration of the Kenting National Park. Fishing without a permit is a violation of the law. Therefore, people have not been able to fish anywhere in the park for years, and they have long felt that their rights have not been respected.Tthis administration has been actively planning for the establishment of a set of rules that will allow fishing while ensuring the sustainability of water resources, striking a balance between preservation and people’s need for leisure activities. The report also pointed out that we have immediately sent staff to clean up garbage at fishing spots and have stepped up enforcement. We have announced guidelines for managing garbage problems from fishing. We will promote these guidelines for three months after the announcement. We will step up enforcement once that promotion period is over so we can ensure the preservation and sustainability of marine resources in the waters of the park.
