Over 600 Tourists Enthusiastically Participate in the Hehuan Mountain Summer Cleaning Event
Taroko National Park Headquarters and Dongshih Forest District Office, Forestry Bureau jointly organized the “2015 Hehuan Mountain Summer Cleaning Event” on August 1st, and personnel at entrances to trails leading to the main peak, east peak, north peak, and Shimen Mountain invited tourists to participate in the mountain cleaning event. Roughly 600 tourists participated in the event and cleaned 40 bags of trash weighing roughly 100 kg. Quite a few tourists indicated that they could not find any trash, and that it was too difficult to gather a whole bag of trash. The volunteer of Taroko National Park Headquarters who was on duty indicated that they were happy to see this situation, as it meant that mountain climbers were well mannered and did not litter, showing that the policy to take your own trash back with you, which they had been promoting for years, was effective. Taroko National Park Headquarters and Dongshih Forest District Office also provided souvenirs to tourists that took part in the event. Hehuan Mountain is the most accessible high mountain in Taiwan. Taroko National Park Headquarters calls on visitors to refrain from littering and take their trash down the mountain with them, so as to protect the beautiful yet vulnerable ecology and landscape of Hehuan Mountain.
