Giant Blue Chair – An Amazing Little Place in Yencheng, Qigu.
Wow! Why is there this giant chair over here? Was it dropped on the way by a giant moving company? The public artwork “Giant Blue Chair” is located in Yencheng Community, Qigu, Tainan City. Taijiang National Park Headquarters cooperated with Lecturer Li Wei-Mu of a civil engineering course at Tainan Community University, who led volunteers of the national park to build the artwork, in hopes of driving tourism development and revitalizing surrounding communities. Besides revitalizing idle spaces in the community with artworks, it is also a part of Taijiang National Park’s “homeland protection circle” policy. The artwork is designed as a giant chair and resting platform made from wood and oyster shells, creating the atmosphere of a fishing village, in hopes of making tourists stay to appreciate the beautiful scenery and become acquainted with this little place. There are quite a few scenic spots around Yencheng Community. Besides Qigu Salt Mountain and Taiwan Salt Museum, the nearby Qigu Sea Tower is a popular destination among photographers and bicycle riders. When you walk on the trail of the embankment, you can see the beautiful view of Qigu Lagoon under the setting sun shining over oyster shelfs. You are welcome to come on a platinum journey of fishery and salt, follow the green transportation network of Taijiang National Park, take boat through Qigu Lagoon, visit traditional fisheries, salt industry settlements and scenic spots of Qigu, and experience the coastal atmosphere!
