The pillar on the main peak of Qixing Mountain, which reads “Main peak of Qixing Mountain, highest peak in Taipei City”, was vandalized between the night of August 27th and morning of the 28th,2015. After days of repair, the pillar was finally repaired on September 8th and now stands again at the top of Qixing Mountain, showing the spirit of defending Yangming National Park and the greater Taipei area. The pillar was vandalized sometime between the night of August 27th and morning of the 28th, 2015, Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters condemned the act and immediately notified the police to gather evidence and search for the criminal. Many people also condemned the act on the headquarters’ fan page and hoped for a fast repair of the pillar. After evaluating the pillar, the headquarters decided to maintain the original appearance on Qixing Mountain, and hired a professional carpenter to repair the pillar to its original appearance. A power generator and wood planer were carried up the mountain on September 1st to remove the damaged parts, and then the original words were carved, colored and coated with an environment-friendlywood polish. Repair work was completed on September 8th. The beautiful environment of Yangmingshan National Park needs everyone to work together to be maintained, and Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters calls on everyone to cherish and protect the national park, and prevent vandalism so that resources can be sustainable.
