“Kenting Wild Goose Season” – Bird watching activity
Wild geese and water birds from the north are arriving in Longluan Lake and swamp area in Kenting National Park for the winter following the growingly stronger cold air mass. Water birds that have been documented include Pandion haliatus, Anser fabalis, Aythya fuligula, Anas poecilorhyncha, Anas crecca, Anas querquedula, Anas penelope, Anas clypeata, and Anas acuta. Kenting National Park Headquarters will be holding the “Kenting Wild Goose Season” from December 19th, 2015 to January 24th, 2016. Wetland ecology plays an important role in global environmental conservation. Wetlands are where land and water meet and nurture ecologies belonging to both. Hence, wetlands are rich with life and have high productivity, regulating the environment, protecting the land and providing shelter to water birds. Longluan Lake is a national wetland of importance located in the southwest part of Hengchun Peninsula, at the lowest point in the plain of Hengchun valley, accumulating rainwater to form a natural wetland. It was established as a special scenic area after Kenting National Park was established.
