Kinmen National Park promotes environmental ecological education in elementary schools throughout Lieyu Township

Military strongholds, traditional Fujianese settlements,geological landscape, oyster-catching culture, taro, wheat field sceneries andfamous peanut candies are seen all over Kinmen National Park. The militarycontrol over the past several years gave way to rich plant and animal habitats,military facilities, cultural and geological sceneries.

The Lieyu Station of Kinmen National Park co-organized environmental ecologicaleducation with Shang-Chyi, Jhou Huan and Xikou Elementary School on April 6,11, and 13. Videos made by the Kinmen National Park about the ecology wereshown using the schools’ audio and visual equipment, and students wereencouraged to learn more about the local natural, cultural and militaryenvironment with quiz contests. The activity was enthusiastically received andfilled with liveliness.

Lieyu district is blessed with rich naturalresources. Due to its remote location, there have been few exploration andeducational activities. In order to activate their work, Kinmen National Parkwill engage with schools more often to promote education on environmental and ecologicalprotection and preservation, with hopes of increasing the students’ knowledgeabout the philosophy of national park management and awareness of environmentalprotection.
