Yushan trail reopened on July 28th. Watch out and proceed with caution!
Due to Typhoon Nepartak, in early July, a huge dip slope rockslide disrupted the traffic at the 5.6 km mark of the Yushan main peak trail. For safety concerns, Yushan National Park Headquarters (YSNPH) immediately closed down the trail. After days of nonstop efforts, workers have finally removed all the boulders, set up the safety chains, and repaired the trail. On July 28th, the trail was reopened for hikers.
According to YSNPH, although the location of the rockslide is now passable after repairing, the trail is narrower than before. Moreover, there is still danger of falling rocks due to the steep terrain. When hikers are approaching that location, they should pay extra attention, hold onto the chain on the mountainside, and pass by ASAP without lingering. After typhoons, heavy rains, and earthquakes, rockslides might be induced along the trail because of the loose soil. Hikers should be aware of their surroundings and watch out for themselves. Before entering the mountain area, they are supposed to check out the weather forecast and consider safety issues.
