Instant weather report for hikers. Weather stations on Xue Mountain start operating.
Three mountain peak auto-weather stations established by Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters (SPNPH) and the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) have started their operations. The three stations locate on the east peak of Xue Mountain, in Xue Mountain Glacial Cirques, and on Tao Mountain respectively. They are the first weather stations built at the elevation of more than 3000 meters in the Shei-Pa Park by the CWB.
In 2015, the CWB and SPNPH agreed to work together to build a few weather stations in the Shei-Pa Park. It took them about one year to choose locations, conduct simple environmental assessments, and find contractors to start the constructions. Constructions and tests of these three weather stations were completed in June 2016. The one on Tao Mountain is even equipped to serve as a relay station. It can transmit data collected by stations on the east peak of Xue Mountain and in Xue Mountain Glacial Cirques to Hsinchu station, and then back to the CWB by sending microwave signals. This has solved the biggest problem of auto data transmission by weather stations on mountains.
