Tongpu to Batongguan Trail temporarily closed for severe damage.
After the attack of typhoons Meranti, Malakas, and Megi in September and Aere in October, landslide broke out in various locations between Tongpu and Batongguan. Emergency repair of over a dozen landslide spots along the trail began in early October. As there are fallen rocks, landslides, and fallen trees everywhere, the trail was severely damaged and beyond manual repair. Although emergency repair is in progress, as torrential rain continues in the mountainside, landslides after the 11K mileage mark of the trail were even worse. For the safety of visitors, we temporarily close the trail.
After a number of earthquakes and typhoons, soil between Dongpu and Batongguan has become extremely unstable. After typhoons and torrential rain, fallen rocks and landslides are frequent along the trail. Although we have sent staff for cleanup and repair, fallen rocks and landslides became more severe after the onslaught of typhoons in September. These typhoons caused frequent massive landslides and even hollowed the roadbed. Therefore, to avoid danger, we urge visitors not to take the trail before it is restored.
