Who is safeguarding Yushan that is protecting Taiwan?

Every year, Yushan National Park Administration (YNPA) mobilizes conservation volunteers to clean up the mountain, and on average, they end up carrying away 250kg of trash, an alarming quantity indeed.

Starting from October 2014 to 2017, conservation volunteers on their mountain-cleaning task have collected a total of 1,057 kg of trash, a task shared by 100 people with each person carrying an average of 11kg on each task. (If we are to convert the load carried by each volunteer to bottles, and each 600ml plastic bottle weighs about 27g, then this translates to each volunteer carrying 407 plastic bottles off the mountain.)

YNPA stated that to maintain the beauty of the mountains, it is not enough to rely on the efforts of volunteers and national park staff. YNPA appealed to all mountain visitors to demonstrate pleasant manners in their visits to the mountains and bring their trash and unwanted food items off the mountains in order to together solve the problem of trash in high mountain areas and restore an adequate living environment for the flora and fauna.
