Two Incidents of Lost Civilians in the Shoushan Military Control Area within 4 Days - Public Please Keep Out!

Recently, there have been two incidents of civilians entering and losing their way in the Shoushan Military Control Area of the Shoushan National Nature Park near Xiaopingding.

Hsu Ya-ju, head of the Shoushan National Nature Park Preparatory Office, says that a comprehensive set of paths have been planned for the park but some hikers like to go off the path to explore. But after “Typhoon Meranti” and “Typhoon Megi” in 2016, the topography and appearance of Shoushan have undergone many changes, and in some areas the routes may be complex and difficult to discern due to fallen trees and rocks, especially within the military control area that is not open to the public.

As we are now entering the autumn season, it becomes dark quickly after 5pm; if civilians enter the area, they can easily lose their way. The public is urged to walk on the boarded paths when visiting Shoushan and to refrain from entering areas without pathways; they should also leave the mountain in early afternoon to avoid getting lost and endangering their own safety and worrying their loved ones.
