Celebrating Shei-Pa National Park’s 27th Anniversary – Here Comes a Series of Events

The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters is hosting the "Headquarters’ 27th Anniversary Event Series" at the Wenshui Visitor Center in Dahu, Miaoli on June 29, 2019. On the day, the "Special Seminar for the 100th Anniversary of the Naming of the Treasured National Fish" will be held in the morning. It has been 100 years since the treasured national fish, Formosan landlocked salmon, was officially named by Masamitsu Oshima and Dr. Jordan in 1919. The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters hopes to use this opportunity to not only pay respect to the seniors who worked on the restoration of the treasured national fish, but also to give the world a better understanding of what the salmon restoration program has achieved so far, and to unite people to work together for the future of the treasured national fish.

The "Shei-Pa Asteroid Presentation" will be held in the afternoon. On October 22, 2008, Asteroid 278956 was discovered by Hsiao Hsiang-yao and Dr. Yeh Chuan Chih (a California Institute of Technology graduate) from National Central University's Lulin Observatory. This asteroid was named "Shie-Pa" by National Central University, and the naming was approved in 2018.

A number of environmental education activities will be held in the areas around the Wenshui Visitor Center, including kamishibai storytelling, tree-climbing experiences, and orienteering. All activities take on-site sign-up and are free of charge.
