“Mountain-Moon Bridge” Overcomes the Dangerous Obstacles of the Canyon and Wins the Public Construction Golden Quality Award

The stunning scenery of the Taroko Gorge attracted around 4.82 million tourists in 2019. The newly completed fourth-generation “Mountain-Moon Bridge” is the highest canyon suspension bridge in Taiwan. Due to the sheer drop of the canyon, sleep slopes, and strong wind conditions, the construction work was extremely difficult to carry out. The engineering team spent around 2 years and 9 months to successfully overcome the natural obstacles and dangers of the canyon, completed the suspension bridge project, and created an accessible scenic walkway. The project also won the “19th Public Construction Golden Quality Award”.

The “Mountain-Moon Bridge” spans Liwu River and the whole Bulowan plateau site has been planned as an user-friendly and accessible environment, with a scenic walkway suitable for the whole family to enjoy the magnificent canyon views. The project started on August 11th, 2016 and was completed on May 13th, 2019. Currently, the Taroko National Park Headquarters is finalizing the restoration of the surrounding landscape, visitor control and guidance measures, and the construction works on the accessible facilities. The bridge is expected to open in the second half of 2020.
