The results of the global black-faced spoonbill census for 2020 have been officially announced. To date, the worldwide number of black-faced spoonbills has reached 4,864, an increase of 401 individuals from the 4,463 recorded in the same period last year. The number of black-faced spoonbills in Taiwan is 2,785, an increase of 378 from the same period last year; among them, 298 were recorded in the surrounding areas of Taijiang National Park. This shows that the Taijiang National Park Headquarters’ effort to foster eco-friendly habitats has gradually produced concrete results.

In recent years, in order to expand the habitat perimeters of black-faced spoonbill's food sources and promote the effort’s effectiveness, the Taijiang National Park Headquarters has implemented the Food Source and Eco-friendly Habitat Cultivation Plan in the buffer zones around ecological conservation areas.

In addition, as an effort to expand the benefit of promoting eco-friendly farming concepts, the Taijiang National Park Headquarters elaborately manufactures canned milkfish under the brand of "Black-faced Spoonbill". The milkfish used are sourced from black-faced spoonbill friendly fish farms, which encourages the neighboring fishers of migratory birds’ habitats to adopt bird-friendly farming methods. This ensures that black-faced spoonbills visiting from afar have access to rich food sources and safe habitats.
