Illustrated Guide to the Moths of Kenting National Park Published 265 Newly Recorded Species
The Kenting National Park Headquarters (KNPHQ) published the Illustrated Guide to the Moths of Kenting National Park - Part 1: Macroheterocera in January 2022. Dr. Yen Shen-Horn and his team from the Department of Biological Sciences, National Sun Yat-sen University, were commissioned to present the fruitful results of the moth diversity survey from 2019 to 2021. A total of 1,267 species of moths in 624 genera and 58 families were found, including 265 newly recorded species of Taiwan or Kenting, which is a much higher number than the 200 or so species of butterflies. This indicates the importance and necessity of publishing a moth resource compendium to promote research, conservation, and education.
The Illustrated Guide will serve as an excellent handbook for the public when observing nature. It will help promote citizen science, assist local communities in diversifying the content of eco-tourism guided tours, enhance the public's nature observation skills, and cultivate environmental awareness to cherish natural resources, thereby enabling actions for resource conservation and environmental sustainability.
Those interested in the Illustrated Guide are welcome to purchase it from government publications sales outlets (such as Wunan Books and Government Books Store).
