Chengxi Windbreak Forest Cleanup on June 8, the World Oceans Day
In order to raise human beings' understanding, protection and sustainable use of the ocean, the United Nations established June 8 as the World Oceans Day in 2009. The Taijiang National Park Headquarters conducts beach cleanups on the World Oceans Day every year to influence the general public to pay attention to the marine ecological environment.
The Taijiang National Park Headquarters invited the Seventh Division of the Seventh Special Police Corps of the National Police Agency of the Ministry of the Interior, Chengxi incineration plant of Tainan City and volunteers, totaling approximately 70 people, to conduct the Chengxi windbreak forest cleanup, in hopes that the area can become a home for Taiwanosemia hoppoensis and Carclisoma carnifex on the west coast.
Participants entered the windbreak forest in the rain, removed Styrofoam, and picked up debris and waste, such as cups, plastic bottles, glass bottles, beverage packs, straws and bottle caps. A total of 180 kilograms of waste was removed to return a healthy habitat to land crabs and forest animals.
