The Kenting National Park Headquarters Announced the Crab Protection Traffic Control Measures for 2022

Kenting National Park is the place with the highest diversity of land crabs in Taiwan. July to November every year is the peak breeding season for land crabs. Female crabs rushing to the sea to spawn at night often become road kills along with other animals.

The Kenting National Park Headquarters publicly announced the crab protection traffic control measures for 2022 in June this year, before the land crab breeding season, in hopes that drivers will cooperate and give way to animals. During the traffic control period, the inner lanes will be opened for 10 minutes each time after the road has been closed for 10 minutes, and a guiding vehicle will instruct cars to slow down, so that land crabs may safely cross the road to release larvae.

The Kenting National Park Headquarters, conservation volunteers and the Third Maintenance Office of Directorate General of Highways will conduct on-site crab conservation and education, in hopes that the general public will allow female land crabs time and space to breed.
