Marine National Park Headquarters Hold Beach Cleaning Activities to Protect the Ocean

The Marine National Park Headquarters has been promoting ecological conservation and ocean protection constantly for years. From March 17 to 19, it organized a beach cleaning activity at the Daping Shore and below the Dongji Island Lighthouse in Dongji Island alongside NGOs and co-organizers. According to statistics, 80 bags (approx. 688 kg) of garbage were cleared, which can be further divided into approx. 318 kg of recyclable waste and approx. 370 kg of non-recyclable waste, the majority consisting of polystyrene.

After the cleaning, we are now able to appreciate the beach's beautiful basalt topography and protect the organisms that inhabit its intertidal zone. The activity also integrated environmental education courses like intertidal zone tours and craftmaking from ocean waste to help participants admire the resilience of living beings that survive amidst the high and low tides and reflect on the damage caused by garbage to the ocean.

The Marine National Park Headquarters hopes that different environmental education activities will encourage participants to take action to cherish the sea and support National Parks' goal of "Sustainable Oceans".
