Shou Shan Hiking Trail Becomes High-Risk Area for Dengue Fever - National Nature Park Headquarters Urges Hikers to Properly Carry Out Mosquito Prevention Measures

It is now the peak season for dengue fever, which is coupled with a large amount of rainfall brought by passing typhoons, making it more conducive for the breeding of vector mosquitoes. Recently, the Kaohsiung City Government has set up dengue fever warning flags along roads from the old weighbridge station site up to Changshou Garden. Mosquito repellent is also provided to the public at the rest areas of trailheads.

The National Nature Park Headquarters is cooperating with the city government’s dengue fever prevention efforts by thoroughly cleaning the park area and emptying standing water containers. The Headquarters has also assisted the Department of Health in implementing biological control measures, including larvicide spraying, as well as enlisting the help of volunteers for the cleanup and promotion of prevention measures. In addition to implementing the “patrol, eliminate, clean, and scrub” for environmental cleanup to prevent the breeding of vector mosquitoes, the National Nature Park Headquarters also urges the public to pay attention to individual mosquito prevention measures. These include wearing light-colored, lightweight and long-sleeved garments and trousers, wearing mosquito repellent bands, and carrying mosquito repellent sprays when hiking to prevent being bitten by vector mosquitoes.
