Unveiling of the National Park Service, Lin Yu-Chang Says New Opportunities Created for Taiwan’s Land Conservation to Align with International Sustainability

Under the efforts of past directors and personnel, the National Park Headquarters has been upgraded to become the National Park Service under the Ministry of the Interior. The unveiling ceremony for the National Park Service and the appointment of the first director general took place on September 20. The Minister of Interior, Lin Yu-Chang said that many people have contributed to the national parks throughout this journey, including volunteers who have long assisted in conservation efforts. They are crucial supporters of the national parks.

The official establishment of the National Parks Service will promote a new generation of national parks system and integrate the operation and management of national parks, national nature parks, wetlands, and coastlines to jointly enforce the National Park Law, Wetland Conservation Act, and Coastal Zone Management Act. These are part of the expansion and integration efforts of Taiwan’s national land and conservation system.

Chen Mao-Chun, Director General of the National Park Service, said that the national parks have accumulated a wealth of research experience and conservation achievements in the past. In the future, he will accelerate cross-domain resource sharing and international cooperation of the national parks, so as to facilitate regular and in-depth exchange and learning programs for practitioners. At the same time, he hopes to make Taiwan’s national parks a gateway to attract international visitors for in-depth exploration of the country.
